Plastic Cosmetic Surgeons leading the way on 3D Printing in Nasal Reconstruction

The future is here! OSTEOPORE developed 3D-printed PCL implant for nasal augmentation has been evaluated for its suitability for nasal surgeries such as septoplasty and rhinoplasty.

Polycaprolactone is easy to work with and will avoid the increased operative time and morbidity associated with autograft harvesting.

NB: Polycaprolactone (PCL) is an U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved synthetic biodegradable polymer and is easily fabricated into three-dimensional (3D) structures.

The Implant looking almost like a "sepak takraw" after being implanted (grafted) and filling the space (cranio-maxillofacial cartilage), the porous nature of the implant allows for the cells that are normally present in the surrounding tissues to migrate into the porous scaffold- it allows for tissue integration. Overtime generation of of extracellular matrix material, such as collagen happens. The effect is permanent and natural.
